Keep having to "repair folder" to receive all my messages

I am downloading my Gmail through POP3 in Thunderbird. I keep running into the issue where I'm not getting all of my e-mails downloading. Most of the time, it's statements from banks or credit card companies or notification of payments. I know that I can right-click the folder in the Folder Pane, Properties, Repair Folder, to force a download of all messages on the mail server, but I don't understand WHY they're getting stuck and not downloading or how to fix this permanently. I am missing e-mails I really need in a timely fashion. Thanks so much!

If it is a pop account as you say, repair folder downloads nothing. Repair folder generates a new index for the existing mail file.

Inconsistencies with the index in the release version and the actual mail store are often the result of third part software trying to do something with the file while it is being updates. Antivirus, streaming backups and cloud synchronization are common causes.
