Lost Email
Hello,
My coworkers were having trouble with my attachments disappearing with the latest upgrade, so I looked on line to see if I could revert to an older version. I followed instructions on one of your threads and much to my regret, I've lost most of my old email. Please help restore them.
Thank you Roxanne Smith-Mansell

now maybe install the latest version so we can work on fixing the issue.
Downgrade is not supported and reinstalling your old version of 91 will probably just locate all you have managed to loose.
Hi Matt, Per your suggestion, I updated to the latest version. So I have two problems, The first is that after I updated to 91 last week or whenever, attachments mostly jpegs, that I sent to coworkers would turn black and then disappear when they tried to open them and the second problem was caused my misguided attempt to reinstall the older version to stop the first problem and that caused the loss of my old emails. Thank you, Roxanne
Lets try the last issue first. I am guessing your downgrade asked you to add your accounts all over again, or just refused to start using the profile. Which was it?
Your original profile (I am assuming you created a new one when you tried to downgrade) should still be shown in the about:profiles you can access from the troubleshooting information on the help menu.
I wrote a blog post a couple of years ago about the process. https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2019/09/i-lost-my-profilemail-on-update-to.html
While I offer a method to downgrade a profile in that post, it is no longer really viable. You loose things like address books and that is not fun.
Now for your original issue of black JPG files. Was that in Thunderbird? or reported by those getting them? I would guess if it was in Thunderbird you need to change the setting in preferences for "hardware acceleration" probably turn it off.
Hi Matt,
I believe I added my accounts all over again and yes I did loose all contacts too. My coworkers are using PC's so probably Outlook. And, I'm not able to find where to turn off hardware acceleration.
Thank you
Hi Matt, I haven't given up on retrieving my archived emails and address book yet...however, I'm not able to any helpful information on line. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you, Roxanne
