I have uninstalled Firefox 40, deleted the profiles folder, reinstalled Firefox, restored Firefox 40 and profiles from a backup and I am still getting this message. I even downgraded to a previous version and restored the profiles for that version and still this nasty error crops up on anything I try to do. I cannot find any info on where other files files are stored that I am not restoring or changing that are still lingering. I have never seen anything like this. This is after spending 3 weeks completely updating and changing Firefox to suit my needs and dumping Chrome, this is what I get. It appears I will have to move back to chrome as I need a browser that works. I have tried everything I can find regarding this to no avail. I am really upset over this especially after all the time spent moving from Chrome to Firefox. I really need an answer or I will have to delete Firefox and move back to Chrome as much as I hate to do that. It still works!! Anyone have an answer for this? Is their no one at Mozilla to help with this? Help!

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question.

Another possible reason for "sec_error_untrusted_issuer" is if Firefox is not set up to trust your security software, such as Avast, BitDefender, ESET or Kaspersky. If you use one of these popular products, reinstalling your product may take care of the problem, or some manual adjustments may be required. If you use one of these, please mention which one for more specific suggestions.

I understand that there is an "Untrusted Connection Error" for websites when a profile is restored in the latest version of Firefox. There was an update to the security package in the last version of Firefox, but I would first start with these troubleshooting steps:

Folks, Thanks for the replies. While waiting I kept trying different things and trying to remember what I had done previously, as I had completed an upgrade to Mavericks and getting Firefox configured my was the last step. One of the things I found I had done was to install Avast as it was working great on my Mac Pro. I decided to uninstall it and lo and behold, Firefox is alive and well again. I have both of my computers running Firefox and synced up as well.I hope this helps someone else. Cheers everyone!
