I never heard back from mozilla support..?! I really hope there's some guidance out there..

Whenever saving/downloading any type of file from any firefox tab, and the 'save as' finder window opens (where I choose where I want the file to be downloaded to), the finder window columns are squooshed really tight and narrow, cutting off the folder names so I constantly have to stretch out that first column so I can see the folder names .. this only happens in firefox and the finder window is always squooshed, even if I adjust it and then close/relaunch firefox .. how can I permanently set the finder window settings to avoid having to manually adjust it each time?

thanks

I apologize that you haven't received an answer for this. As a Windows person, I don't have much insight into Finder issues.

With that in mind, there is a Firefox settings file which stores window dimensions and toolbar visibility information which sometimes becomes corrupted. You can rename the file and see whether that helps.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, click the "Show in Finder" button. This should launch a new Finder window listing various files and folders.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
  • (menu bar) Firefox > Quit Firefox

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old.

Start Firefox back up again. Does that help at all?

I notice a resizer icon in the bottom right corner of the "Save as" window.

Did you try to make this window larger?

Hi jscher2000 and thanks so much for the detailed walk-through. after completing the process and relaunching firefox, and then testing it out by simply trying the download and save this web page (by hitting 'command + s' = 'save as'), a finder window popped up and once again, like before the window columns were still really narrow and squooshed .. I resized the window and column size to my liking, quit and restarted firefox, and it reverted right back to the same squooshed window size.. it's just frustrating and a pain that I have to manually resize the finder window every time.. I thought it would remember my preferences .. or I could set my window preferences/size somewhere.. any other thoughts?

Maybe check for issues with a plist file.

Try to remove the Firefox plist file (org.mozilla.firefox.plist).

Go to "~/Library/Preferences" and remove the plist file for Firefox (org.mozilla.firefox.plist)
