Firefox Sync doesn't remember my password between uses – when I quit Firefox and re-open it I'm asked to log back in to Sync each time. Doing so is not terribly useful, however, as after I sign-in Sync experiences an "Unknown error" that prevents it from synching. I've tried deleting the cookies.sqlite files in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profile/ but that hasn't brought about any change. My first priority is fixing the log-in issues but if anyone has any insight as to how to debug an "Unknown error" that would be appreciated as well.

I experience this on both of my Macs, both running 10.10.3 and Firefox 38. I also experience this issue with Firefox 37.

The Sync version used in Firefox 34 and later uses the password manager to store the name (e-mail) and password to be used to connect to the Sync server. The chrome://FirefoxAccounts entry in the password manager stores the authentication data (kA and kB) in JSON format. Previous Firefox versions stored this data in the signedInUser.json file in the profile folder, but the current version only stores the sessionToken in this file and needs the password manager for the password, so you need to log in at the start of each new session.

I'm still experiencing the other issues, but I got it to sync! Twice, in fact. Only it only sinked to this machine, not from it. So I synched, removed an add-on, and synced Firefox again and it... Re-installs the add-on.

Rats.

Is there no way to change that? It seems like if the session has to be-initiated every time Firefox is closed it would be better to use a 3rd party add-on in place of Sync and swallow the lack of synchronized tabs and history.

I was having the same problem using sync in FF v38.0.1. I saw the fix was to insert my FF Sync credentials into FF password manager. That fixed this problem but it created a new similar problem. Now when I open FF it prompts me for the Master Password instead of the Sync password. Good Grief.

This needs to be fixed!
