Our website is loading very slow on Mozilla Firefox, v.25. Please help?

In Google Analytics, I noticed that our website, yogasmoga.com, loads 55% - 108% slower than other web browsers.

I'm not sure what the technical problem is, whether if it's problems with our jscript or css taking much longer to load. But I was hoping that this isn't the first time you've heard this and might have a possible solution.

Of course, please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks! Tom

Just tried you site again, 30 seconds. Two things;

  • Reduce the size of your pictures. They are a bit large, aren't they ;-)
  • Compress the pictures. I have seen pictures using huge amounts of disk space, but when compressed, it uses only a fraction of the space. Try using a program to reduce the picture, and see if it still works.

Firefox 35 is the current release version. Firefox 25 (released on October 29, 2013) is ten versions "behind the curve". There shouldn't be too many users out there using that old version anymore.

See if that issue is present in Firefox 35 and let us know.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply! Apologies, just checked and it is version 35 that is super slow. The average page load time is over 15 seconds.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thank you, Tom

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).

The timer on my Firefox showed approx 23 seconds to load the whole page.

Hi FredMcD/Cor-el,

Thanks for your help! 23 seconds is an obsurd amount of time to wait for a page to load. i will look into and see if our network can handle IPv6 and disable if I have to. I will be in touch, but please let me know if you have any other recommendations in the meantime. The only other thing I can think of is large images and taking up most of the load time...

Thanks again, Tom

Hi Fred!

Thanks for the suggestions! I will update our images and see if that helps. Is there anything else you can recommend?

Thanks, Tom

tom, have a look at the firefox developer tools which contain instruments that allow you to visualise and further inspect page load times: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Network_Monitor

As with any program;

  • Step 1: Get it to work.
  • Step 2: Refine it
  • Step 3: Improve it

I just tried your http://yogasmoga.com/ site today.

It took the main page 60 seconds to load.  :-/

Thanks, FredMcd! I am working with our developers to decrease this. Right now, we are upgrading our ecommerce platform to a newer version and after, we will work on consolidating the jss and css code that will hopefully help our load times.

Thanks, Tom

We've basically dwindled our images to about 60kb at 1600px wide. Very sharp. :)
