earlier versions of Firefox had "spacers" to add to accomplish such things. They are not to be found in the present version, at least not by me. Thanks, George Kunkel

I created another toolbar. Leave the address on the primary bar, and move the search box to the other toolbar.

You can place the mouse pointer between the location bar and the search bar and it will become a resize icon that you can drag right or left with the left mouse button pressed to change the relative width of the location bar and the search bar.
