Firefox loads the wrong webpage after several attempts

I try to load a page and firefox shows a few different webpages it's trying to reach and then usually opens a page I did not ask for. Sometimes after 4 or 5 attempts the page I want loads. When I press enter after loading a site, sometimes firefox keeps showing the first search results. I select the site I want maybe 3 or 4 times until it finally accepts my request. Also firefox is very slow loading.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
