Synced bookmarks duplicating, leaving subfolders

I have Firefox installed and synced across several PCs and mobile devices, and on various operating systems. Lately, my bookmarks (I keep them all in the Bookmarks Toolbar for easy access) become duplicated - 8 or 9 times duplicated - and they all seem to leave their sub-folders and become scattered across the toolbar. Additionally, multiple entries of these bookmarks are copied into the Bookmarks Menu folder.

Is there a fix for this, aside from disconnecting from the sync feature?
