Drafts in Thunderbird not deleting since last update - problems setting draft folder

For that last 2 months (since my Thunderbird upgraded to 78.6.0 32-bit on Win 7) Thunderbird is creating multiple drafts of every email I create and failing to delete them. So I will end up with 3-4 draft copies of each email I write showing up as "unread" in my draft folders.

In an attempt to fix this, I have been going into Account Settings and switching my "Drafts and Templates" to "Drafts folder on ... Local Folders".

Every time I close Thunderbird, and re-launch the application, this setting sets itself back "Drafts folder on ... %my mailserver%" and the problem continues.

Can someone please help me fix this?
