I'm using Thunderbird 60.5.3 on Windows 10 with Lightning. I've added a FastMail calendar account using CalDav:

I signed up for a Docker birthday event:

Docker sent me a calendar event. I tried to accept the event in Thunderbird, and I selected my FastMail calendar. Thunderbird told me: 

   Processing message failed. Status: 800004005

I can manually add events to the calendar without any problem.

No, Docker had just created the event, and it generated the invitation for me from scratch.
