I have already denied it access to both, but still get the message periodically that it was caught using those devices

It only asks for access camera/microphone when websites you are visiting ask for access. Firefox will continue to work just fine without those permissions. Some functions of the websites you are visiting may fail to function without access to the camera/microphone, mainly video chat sites.

Could you post a screenshot next time if it's not like the attached permission request (nothing has happened on the page until you "Share").
