This morning when opening my email, I was asked if I wanted to create a calendar. I said no. When my email loaded, all emails from longer ago than 10 days were missing, folders and tags had disappeared. If I use the search function, the old emails are listed but when I click on them I cannot see the message. Also, there no longer appears to be any way to create a new folder.

Something has gone wrong with your Thunderbird Profile. To learn more about Thunderbird Profiles: Profiles - Where Thunderbird stores your messages and other user data

You need to create a new Thunderbird Profile.

Some people here recommend creating a new Profile and then copying all the files from the old profile folder to the new one. You can try that if you want as a first, relatively easier thing to get things working. To do this, read the information in the above link, and pay special attention to the section, "Restoring to a different location". I've personally found that that rarely does any good because copying over the files from a faulty profile doesn't fix profile.

If that doesn't work, then you should Create a clean new profile in Thunderbird and import your stuff from the old profile.
