Hi, last few days I've had increasing problems with FF 19.0, started with refusing to open any new windows, then started refusing to open from tray icon. I've restarted in safe mode and all works as normal so I tried to go to addon manager, but it just shows a blank screen for extensions. I can see my plugins and themes but there seems to be nothing under extensions. And if I switch to Get Addons I just get the loading icon and nothing comes up.

Having read around here for a while I couldn't find the exact problem, but some related ones, so I have tried deleting the extension files in my profile, except for extensions.sqlite which it says cannot be deleted as it is in use elsewhere.

PS even after allowing the Troubleshooting addon below I can't see it in manager!

JillianP you are correct, see for more info : Transferring data to a new profile - Firefox

try to reset firefox, if you can not delete the extensions.sqlite, as madperson suggest in his reply, try one more time to rename the file to extensionsOLD.sqlite to see what happen.

{the "reset firefox" simply creates a new profile}

thanks again

Hello JillianP, madperson is correct firefox has to be closed while you're deleting the files in your profile folder that hold the information about extensions

also you must delete or rename (extensionsOLD.sqlite) the extensions.sqlite and extensions.sqlite-journal (if found) , see : Corrupt extension files and then restart firefox to make effect the changes.

thank you

Thanks guys, should have said that I did close FF but it still would only let me delete the other extension files, not sqlite

My tweaking things seems to have made it worse and now my FF won't come up at all so I think I'll just have to uninstall and start again. I use almost the same addons etc in my laptop FF as on the desktop FF, so can I simply copy files from one profile folder to another to get my personalisations back?

Thanks, sorted eventually. Turned out it was the SpeedBit addon that was causing the problem, once I managed to get rid of it, all was ok again :-)

My Add-ons Manager keeps loading. None of the Suggestions I found online helped resolved my problem. Finally I Reset Mozilla Firefox to it's Default State. Mozilla will try to save your Browsing History, Bookmarks, Saved passwords, Saved Form History and Cookies. Firefox will restart and everything else will be removed. This process worked well for me. Note Back up all files before undertaking this process. Mozilla Firefox > Help > Trouble Shooting Information > Reset Firefox to it's Default State > Press Reset Firefox > Reset Firefox > Press Reset Firefox. Your Firefox is now Reset to it's Default State. No more Add-ons Manager loading Problems for my self. I hope this process will help anyone with this issue.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps to remove this file.

You can do a disk check with the chkdsk.exe program.

If you run the chkdsk.exe program from a cmd.exe Command window then you can read the response from the chkdsk.exe program.

Open a cmd.exe window:

Start > Run: cmd.exe <press Enter>

At the command prompt (>) type or Copy&Paste: chkdsk.exe /f /r <press Enter> (put a space before /f and /r)

If you get something like: Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n then answer the question with "Y" and close all programs and reboot the computer.
