For some reason, today, every time I go on Facebook, Firefox crashed and I'm unable to do anything. I get a multicoloured loading wheel (I'm running OSX Lion) and must force-quit. Any ideas?

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

jkroll,
You would probably be better to start your own thread by asking a new question use link /questions/new & post back here to confirm when you have done so.
Maybe also check the crash IDs that you posted, I am not sure they are all going to be valid ones.

No doubt Tyler will post back next working day.

I am unable to obtain reports for those CrashIDs at the moment. Can you check them again on your computer please, are they prefixed with bp- ? if not it means they did not get submitted and you should try clicking on them again.

If they are correct maybe it is just a delay with the database..

Here are the new crash report IDs:

  • bp-821d2f40-ffba-43a3-a384-09e4b2130111
  • bp-9238c030-65d7-4064-8720-3704a2130111
  • bp-96fb57f4-44a5-45c1-8f62-b81ad2130111
  • bp-0ca512d7-c4df-48c9-9dd7-ad00f2130111
  • bp-2e745f64-1b3b-4fe8-9727-76cbe2130111

It seems that none of the crash reports I've been sending have actually arrived at the database for some time...

There's an error in my third and fifth crash reports listed above. should be:

And all of these show up as not registered, probably still in the queue.

Yakuzakitty,

Sorry, Not something I know much about,so I will leave it to Tyler to give detailed advice.

Meanwhile I note you appear to have plugs and extensions active so I would suggest you try in Safe Mode and with all plugins disabled, and if it still crashes post a couple of the new crash IDs.

I would not suggest you try the Firefox Reset just yet as that does cause some information loss: that will remove open tabs, extensions and some preferences.

For forum cross referencing all five Crash Reports same signature e.g.

One of those crashes happened in safe mode anyway, which I tried after browsing the forums.

Please also disable or uninstall all plugins.

If you are getting startup crashes and decide to try uininstalling and reinstalling please

P.S. do these crashes only happen when you use Facebook ?

This looks like a plugin related crash.
Since plugins are not affected by Safe mode then this seems to confirm this.

So you will have to check for issues caused by plugins.

Same thing happening here since yesterday (and already tried Safe mode, blacklisting scripts, etc... still happening). One time I got an unresponsive script dialog, but the other 20+ times I didn't.

Hi moboid

Unfortunately the crash reports in your reply haven't been send.

Do you have crash reports with a "bp-" prefix that were submitted and that show a crashing thread?

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more crash reports that have this format:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

Found a fix! It's the chat feature causing the issue. Open Safari and go to the advanced setting on your FB chat. Make certain that is is turned COMPLETELY off, not just halfway off. Then return to FB in Firefox and it will work perfectly.

redcell23, did you get crashes in Firefox and submit Crash Reports ? If so could you post a couple of your Crash IDs please. Will be interesting to see if it is the same crash signature.
