Spell-checker rejects contractions

Geoff Walker

For at least the last 10 years, Thunderbird spell-checker has rejected contractions such as "don't" in the emails that I type. It highlights "don" as a misspelled word, ignoring the apostrophe and "t". How can I force it to recognize contractions? Adding every contraction in the English language to the dictionary is not a practical answer.

This does not happen to me and never has. Do you use any add-ons that might affect spell check? Do you have any extra languages or dictionaries installed?

Try restating Thunderbird in Troubleshooting Mode (see <Help | Troubleshoot Mode>. Among other things, this will temporarily disable all add-ons, in case one of them is misbehaving.
