more options

Windows 10 (64bit), malwarebytes, defender Thunderbird 68.2.2 (32-bit)

Opening from taskbar can take approx 60secs before finding any emails. Also doing various functions it freezes (not responding).

Safemode is alittle better but not much.

Had TB for a few years, but now using Win10 it seems to be worse than ever. Yet MS Outlook seems ok, alot quicker

Any tips how solve these issues

Added Thunderbird.exe to Defender Exculsions and to Malwarebytes Exclusions with no improvement in opening from the taskbar.

I think the recommendation was to add the TB profile folder as an Exclusion, not the executable.

C:\Users\<winusername>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<8charstring>.default

is the default location; enable hidden items on the View tab of File Explorer.

There are numerous reports of Defender on Windows 10 slowing down Thunderbird. Add an exception to Defender?

Then it might not be defender, but just to be sure start Windows in safe mode

Just the same in Safe Mode....

Since starting the post, I've installed the 68.2.2 (64bit) version.

This starts from the taskbar in half the time, but still very slow in retrieving and showing emails.

Thanks Guys,

Having done as said last, has cut the whole opening and downloading all emails by a half.
