Updates are throttled by Mozilla when a new version of Firefox is released, so that not every user is notified about an update being available at the same time. On Tuesday May 12th i was set to 25% so that only 1 in 4 users was notified; once Mozilla determined that there was a big problem for some users (those with Nvidia graphics drivers) the update was turned off / frozen. A "chemspill" release was made on Friday the 15th to fix an issue with a misspelt file name and a few other patches were added - making for the Firefox 38.0.1 version. Using Help > About Firefox will bypass the "throttle", but it doesn't override when the new version is frozen, as it was last on Tuesday.

As far as the Maintenance Service not being updated goes, I can only guess that an update wasn't needed for the two files; the executable and the installer. I can't say for sure though, I either uncheck the option for Maintenance Service by using the Custom option in the "full installer" or use my own way of doing a custom installation (treating the installer like a Zip-archive build and extract the /code/ folder) and then delete the two maintenanceservice file. I have multiple versions of Firefox installed all the time, and either never update them & installed new versions separately or do a manual update so I am sure to get them on the day that they are released. On Tues the 12th, I was checking for the update every half hour from like 8 am CDT until I had to leave the house in the early afternoon.

so maintenance service doesn't have update? v36 is latest ver?

Sorry, my guess was just plain wrong. I just looked in my other Firefox 38.0.1 program files folder (I have 2 separate "installations") and that one which was a straight installation via the installer which I use as the "default browser", does have the 38.0.1 version maintenanceservices.exe file. And that installation was fresh with 37.0.2, then a manually triggered update made it 38.0 on Tuesday, and Firefox 38.0.1 on Friday, manually again. Too many unhappy surprises in the early days of the partial MAR's updater (like 2006 / 2007 when I was using a nightly for my primary browser) of updates interrupting my work flow, I got in the habit of disabling automatic updates and checking manually per schedule or at a more opportune than when Firefox is opened the first time for the day.

I don't think that would keep Firefox from looking for and getting an automatic update, though. From what I have read about that "service" it isn't directly involved in the Rapid Release Update schedule. It's used for something else - like to try to "force" users who have "never check for an update" set to at least consider updating an old version to the latest version and making it hard to say no.

But let's wait to see what cor-el has to say when he comes on line later today.

The Firefox 38.0.1 update was actually out on evening Pacific time on Thursday May 14 and automatic updates were enabled again then also so users could get updates again that were not just to 37.0.2 at most.

The Automatic updates are disabled on Wed to the Friday the week a new Major release is out. Besides when people find out about new Release they manually check anyways.

& how they do that? i randomly check time to time, i never know when the update is out, cause there is no notification

about maintenance service, is it normal that it is v36, not same v as fox?

i guess its better choice cause automatic doesn't work, well at least so far it hasn't worked

When accessing any web page,I must wait for messages at bottom of screen. Such as "transferring data to facebook,adclic," and others. Then afterwards,the page refreshes.Is my page being hijacked? My virus detectors do not indicate a problem. I am runnig Version 38.05
