Firefix won't work with PDF files. Refuses to load them. Says PDF is running and it's not.

I just downloaded the newest version of Firefos 12.0 and now I can't get a PDF file to download. It says that my PDF reader is running and I need to stop it, but it is not running. I have nothing but Firefox running. It just stops and refuses to download anything in PDF now. Also, I lost my search bar and now have three icons in it's place. I can use the address bar for search, but I can't pick my search engine, I only get one and I can't change it. I used to be able to download a PDF file and open it in Firefox with no problems, but after the update I can't do that now. I have version 10.1.1 for my PDF reader, but that is the same reader I was using before I had this problem.

Thanks Ed Broberg

Which OS are you using?

Are you running Firefox in some compatibility mode because the system details list shows Windows NT 4.0

  • Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 4.0; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0

You can open the Properties of the Firefox desktop shortcut via the right-click context menu and check the "Compatibility" tab.
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

No, I'm running it in XP home ed and have been running this same computer for a couple years now and never had this problem until I downloaded the new 12.0 version of Firefox.
