pages do not open when links are selected
i have set preferences for links to open in a new tab. now when i click on a link, a new gtab opens with no content. this is a ne wissue as in passt the links opened fine in the new tabs.

The first thing to do is to check if this still happens in Firefox's safe mode - Basic troubleshooting, step 4. Restart Firefox in Safe Mode
Restarted in Safe Mode with all Extensions disabled, but the problem is still there: links open a new tab but there is no content at all in the new tab. (Running Mac Lion 10.7.3).
Ok then you should continue the troubleshooting steps. Move on to step 5 , if that doesn't solve it keep going.
I've been having this same problem, and I just SOLVED it.
It seemed to be happening when the destination page is secure (i.e., https). Just now I did a Google search for something like "Firefox 11 clicking link does not load secure page" and found a complaint from WebMynd developers (I have no idea what WebMynd actually is) about a problem with Firefox 11.
So I looked at my extensions and noticed that Disconnect (which is a privacy add-on that tells you whether information about you is being sent to services like Twitter or Facebook, and lets you block the transmission) says "Built with WebMynd".
I disabled the Disconnect add-on and all is well. I am on Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Thanks for the suggestion. However, I do not have "Disconnect" installed so disabling it is not an option.
