Every time I open the browser after the update to 4 I have had this problem. I need to be able to access my favorites. I don't know what the update was trying to do but it messed up my browsing needs immensely. I completely removed Firefox and reinstalled it 4 times hoping it would correct itself. Nope. Until I get a response I am going to have to switch to a more stable browser dare I say Internet Exploder. I also tried to install a previous version I had on teh hard drive, it installed then kept coming up with crash reports and closing.

Same thing happens to me. I installed Firefox V4 on Windows 7 32 bit. The Bookmark menu is flashing and flickering and hiding itself. It is so bad that it makes the browser completely unusable.

I had to back down to Firefox 3.

I had the same problem. It just started this AM May 20, 2011. It seems to be a monitor problem. I run 2 monitors and it only happens on the older VGA monitor. I use windows 7 home edition.

I also use 2 monitors and it is only doing it on my second LCD with the DVI connection. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with an nVidia GTS 250 video card. I am a gamer and having the ability to use the 2nd monitor is extremely helpful but only if I can get to my bookmarks :(

I am using a imac and i am having a similar problem. Nothing is flickering but the entire menu bar is completely unusable. I can click on it for ever and i get no response. I have to force quit FF and start it back up to use the bar. It will only work for a limited amount of time before it becomes unusable again.

I had the same problem -- only on the 2nd monitor and only after I bought a new HP laptop with Windows 7. I disabled Xmarks and it seems to be working OK now.

I too disabled Xmarks and this resolved the issue. I re-enabled the Xmarks add on and the problem was still resolved. I hadn't disabled since updating from v4 to v5 of firefox.
