Can "Write" open a new tab, not a new window?

Hi

Just moving from Eudora to TBird because of recent Google login requirement change so I am an old stubborn Eudora user (obviously ;-) ).

Anyway - I would like to have the new message 'write' button open a new tab, not a new window. I did figure out how to open new incoming messages in a Tab so at least I got that right.

Is there any way to change the setting for opening a new outgoing message window/tab?

That would be this 14 year old enhancement request. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=449299

I do understand it is getting closer, but I do not see it on the current roadmap, or the listed backlog.
