problem with links to PDFs on websites

When I click on a link to a PDF in a website, expecting it to open, it does not open. Instead, I am asked to save it to a file on my computer (apparently more or less selected at random). To open it and read it I have to navigate to that file. Not a terrible problem, but bothersome. I imagine I must have inadvertently told Firefox to behave this way.

in the main menu dropdown, select "Settings", then in the search box at the top, type pdf. This will bring up the "Application" section. In there you can type pdf again to quickly see the options for that filetype. In the dropdown you should see an option to open with firefox. Select that and you should be good to go.

KellyC's solution looks like it would do the job. But the only problem is that this Dummkopf doesn't know where (or how) to find the"main menu dropdown." Please be kind enough to spell out in detail how I can find it.. Thanks, Jim romer
