We have a new add-on of our own that we were trying to add to the Firefox browser. This add-on was tested locally and worked fine. However, upon trying to install the official add-on to the browser, it is throwing the following error, "Installation aborted because the add-on appears to be corrupt".

The add-on in question is, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchgiggle-search/

Any suggestions to address this issue would be appreciated.

I also noticed another post or two about the same topic. As per those posts, the issue got resolved automatically after some time. Can I expect the same?

hello srik.kid, have you read this? : https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/Your_first_WebExtension

Thanks for sharing this link and for your concern. Yes, I referred to this one, and also to a couple of other references specifically connected to our extension prior to creating this extension.

As mentioned, the extension works locally, which is possible, only if the code is right (please see attached image, which includes SearchGiggle as a search option for the highlighted text). I also received an email from the Moz team about the Covid-19 related delays in reviewing new submissions, which as suggested by jscher2000, is the likely reason for this issue.

Have a good weekend !!

That link doesn't work for me. When you uploaded the extension, did you select the option to distribute it on your own site instead of on the Add-ons site? Or when you load the page does it have red warning bars indicating that no one else can see it except your account because it is still under review?

Thanks for your response.

The add-on is awaiting review. However, I am able to see it, and tried to test the add-on, which resulted in that error.

Can you load the add-on via about:debugging as a temporarily extension or does that fail as well ?

I don't have any issue testing it locally.

I don't think you can install it normally until review is completed because most likely the digital signature has not yet been added to the XPI file. If you right-click > Save Link As and open the XPI file in a program that reads ZIP archives, you probably won't find that folder.

Note that this is about the META-INF folder that stores signing information.

Thanks again. I will then wait until the review completes. Best -
