There's one tab I don't want to keep loading up, but it keeps coming back on launch.

So I have plenty of tabs I want to keep. I'm happy with the way Firefox loads up all my "saved" tabs. As in, when I shut down my PC, they are all there the next time I boot up. However, there is one page that keeps coming back up, even though I have closed it every single time. I can go the whole day, it's not there. Next time I boot up, there it is again.

It's not my homepage, or saved as a bookmark or anything. It was some random link to a Ubisoft free game offer that my friend sent me a couple of weeks ago, and it is infuriating me that I can't work out how to stop it coming back.

sessionstore.jsonlz4 is only present in the profile folder when Firefox is closed.

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.jsonlz4 file in the Firefox profile folder that stores session data.

  • delete sessionstore.jsonlz4 and sessionstore.js

When sessionstore.jsonlz4 is deleted you lose pinned tabs and open tabs and you will have to recreate them, so if necessary make a note or bookmark them.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

I tried scanning for Malware. Nothing came up. Problem is still here.

Thanks for the advice, there's no file in that folder called sessionstore. The closest thing I can find is sessionCheckpoints.json

Ok, this was the solution, thanks. I have no idea what caused it, so hopefully it doesn't come back again, but I did as you suggested and copied all my tabs' URLs and deleted the files. Launched again and it was not there, huzzah!
