Download links not working

For at least a year now the download links on most websites and emails do not work when using Firefox. I must use a different browser to complete a download. After clicking on a download link, Firefox will act like it is going to start the download but then acts as if the link is being blocked. I have to use a different browser like Zen or DuckDuckGo to do the download. I have checked the settings and nothing has changed from the initial setup done years ago. This started happening several updates ago and has not improved but only gotten worse with each new update. As of now I can only use Firefox to download links from about 1 in 50 websites. There's not much sense in using Firefox as my default browser if I have to use another browser to download link contents from websites or my emails.
