Firefox v49.0.1 asking to Enable Add-ons Every Time I use Firefox on 3 different PCs!

I keep having this occur every time I fire up Firefox on all three machines. I am using Windoze 7 64 bit. I have read an earlier thread and tried deleting the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, , extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry. [The two files addons.sqlite and extensions.sqlite don’t seem to exist.]

I have also “Refreshed” but the joy still keeps coming! I have checked the update facility and all addons are reported as fine.

However I have two plugins that appear in red; Adobe Acrobat and Java Deployment Toolkit which are both disabled. A further extension Abobe Create PDF is also shown disabled.

I would really like to removed the above but cannot find a method to do this.

Any wise guidance will be greatly appreciated for it will be a shame to dump Firefox but it is really beginning to impede on workflow given it appears every time FF is started which can be hundreds of times a day. Regrettably the option of IE after all these years is pretty unpalatable and Chrome will never happen!

Help!

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side, you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To its right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Delete all extensions*.* files and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

After, restart Firefox.

See "Corrupt extension files":

You will have to approve the updating one last time.

Oops, you already did that. Sorry  :-/

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Java Deployment Toolkit is locked out because of security issues.

Hi FredMcD - Firstly many thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated.

Yes, starting in Safe Mode still has the problem.

Hi Nigel, Why make work for yourself and start Firefox hundreds of times a day ? I am sure you will have a good reason but given the trouble it is causing you at present I wondered why that was necessary.

Can you provide a screenshot of the message you get ?

Note this is a public forum, so please make sure you do not post any sensitive information.

If you are clearing all Firefox data and starting again then anytime you open a site needing Flash Player you will get a message asking you to enable that. I don't know whether possibly that is what is happening.

What happens if you open Firefox with it only starting at its own default homepage, or better still set about:blank as a single homepage. does that ask you to enable add-ons ?

P.S. I note you have an odd User Agent String, and apparently use some odd software

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:49.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0.1 anonymized by Abelssoft 1959209576
A plugin to detect whether the Adobe Application Manager is installed on this machine.

Apologies for the delay in responding but I needed to conduct more tests. This had become intermittent and was difficult to reliably recreate - but is still a serious issue.

Safe Mode: For a while this would guarantee the problem would occur.

Regular Mode: Would occur 2 in every 3 start ups.

It sometimes would go away, but strangely all extensions would disappear when using Tools Add-ons to inspect. However when the problem arose again, the extensions would mysteriously be present.

In answer to the odd User Agent Strings, the first one is Abelssoft - my antivirus software. I had been running Web Protection services but disabled it to see if that was causing the problem, but it makes no difference.

The Adobe reference - I too would love to remove it and the other Adobe plugin references but there is no 'Remove' button shown in the Add-Ons manager section.

I have also disengaged the Sync with other firefox browsers in case it was inheriting anything from the other machines, but no change.

Also, as mentioned before, there are no sqlite files to delete- does this indicate anything perhaps?

Basically I need to clobber the startup call "about:newaddon" which persistently asks me to accept each add-on and restart.
