I used to have FF set as the default picture viewer. It even worked with Nightly, but when I rolled back to FF8, the option disappeared. I can't do it through the tools menu in FF, and I can't do it in the Windows associate menu either. I tried right-clicking and setting the default program to pen pics, and of course everyone else is at the party: Chrome, IE, Opera, etc, but not FF. I navigated to FF.exe, set it to always use it, hit okay, bam! Right back to Windows photo viewer.

You can tell Windows you want Firefox to handle image previews.

  • First, close Firefox.
  • Then open the Windows 7 Default Programs manager by clicking the Start button and then click Default Programs. (If you don't see this option on the right side of your Start Menu, right click on the start button, click Properties then the Customize button on the upper right, then about the 4th checkbox down, check the box next to Default programs. After you close this options panel, Default Programs will appear on the right side of your Start Menu.)
  • You'll see an option for associating file types, click that and a list of file types will load. Select the file types you want to have Firefox handle, close that window when you're finished. (If you get stuck, see Microsoft's how-to article.)
  • Restart Firefox and test your selections.

Yeah, I know how to set defaults, like I originally said. I've already gone this route and those options are grayed out from FF and can't be filled.
