I upgraded to FireFox 4.0, then 5.0, but I'm still getting reminders to update vers. 3. How do I eliminate those reminders?

When I originally installed Firefox, I installed version 3. When version 4.0 was released, I upgraded. Then, when version 5.0 was released, I upgraded again. But I am still getting notices that there is a new version of 3 and that I need to update. The last time I used the link to update, the update "hung" and failed to complete.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the first one did not work. The problem is that, even when showing hidden and system files, I could not find any of the listed files. The closest I could find was "updater", and deleting that did not help.

It seems that the only help available is out of date. The corresponding page for Mozilla is also out of date.

In which folder did you delete updater?

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.

You can delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.

"C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates"
("%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox")

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.

I am using Windows 7 (not Vista) and, even with the "Show Hidden and System files" option checked in Tools, the files and directories you identified do not exist.
