Why is the latest version of Firefox not compatable with the Google toolbar? Will it ever be or do I need to switch back to Internet Explorer?

My Google toolbar was deleted when I downloaded the latest version of Firefox. It will not re-load because it is not compatible. Is this problem with Google or with Firefox? Will it be fixed soon, or will I have to go back to Internet Explorer?

You need to update the following. The Plugin version(s) shown below was/were submitted with your question and is/are out of date. You should update to avoid known security issues with the version(s) you have installed. Click on "More system info..." to the right of your question to see what was included with your question.

  • Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.0
  • Next Generation Java Plug-in 1.6.0_21 for Mozilla browsers
  1. Check your plugin versions on either of the following links':
  2. Update Shockwave for Director
    • NOTE: this is not the same as Shockwave Flash; this installs the Shockwave Player.
    • Use Firefox to download and SAVE the installer to your hard drive from the link in the article below (Desktop is a good place so you can find it).
    • When the download is complete, exit Firefox (File > Exit)
    • locate and double-click in the installer you just downloaded, let the install complete.
    • Restart Firefox and check your plugins again.
    • Download link and more information: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+Shockwave+plugin+with+Firefox
  3. Update the Java plugin to the latest version.

I believe you will find it is disabled not deleted if you look at your addons.

You can force 5.0 "compatibility" with the "Compatibility Reporter" extension, or with extensions.checkCompatibility using about:config. Use either or both at your own risk. I understand that works for "Google Toolbar".

More information with links in my profile.

Extension author's are responsible for their own extensions. Google is the author of the "Google Toolbar", it is their responsibility to maintain it whether if means real code changes or just upping the version limitations.

I'm a little concerned about the "at your own risk" aspects. Any idea as to when the problem might be resolved?

I did the installation procedure Reporter Add-on Compatibility extension but continued the same way does not work in FireFox 6.0! Is not there like in this version?

@ TCanuto

"This version" being what version? I thought in Firefox 5.0 Google Toolbar was added to the blocked list, but I guess not

Compatibility Reporter adds a "Compatibility" drop-down to extensions where maxVer is not current. Since the developer has not marked it a compatible, you would have to enable the extension. (Developer marking as compatible means he thinks it is compatible but it is not the same as upping the maxVer, or actually coming out with a newer and better version).
