i cannot add or change bookmarks. History does not appear either in sidebar or from drop down menu. We have had this problem for 2 years now. We run a mac os x 10.5.8. I have followed your troubleshooting guide and cannot find the problem this way.
I have opened firefox in safe mode twice and 1) continued in safe mode and then 2) reset toolbars. The problem of not being able to make a bookmark persisted. We have a range of bookmarked sites running along the top of the firefox header from which we can access those sites. However these bookmarks are old and cannot be added to. Most disturbing is the lack of history. I cannot get history no matter where i try! I would be very appreciative of your help on this. thankyou

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

I have tried to access your link, or just kb.mozillazine.org several times over the past hour without success...
this is all way too confusing for a technophobe - i can't locate the firefox profile folder in order to follow the pathway suggested under Damaged Places database... Could you please provide more specific assistance..? thanks
The links should be working now. Sometimes there are server problems on the mozillaZine site and in that case you can try later or use the Google cache by prefixing the link with cache:.

Did you try to delete the file places.sqlite in the Firefox Profile Folder
