Now that I have uploaded Firefox 4 I seem to have lost the option to save and quit. Does it still exist and if so, where can I find it?

Well, there's not much more to say really. The main reason I use Firefox is so that I can leave all my tabs open and come back to them next time I log onto the internet and since I upgraded to Firefox 4 I have not been able to do this. When I close down it just asks me if I am sure I want to close all the tabs - this used to happen if I had inadvertently opened Firefox twice but now it happens even when I haven't. If there isn't a solution I will just go back to using the previous Firefox programme.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"

If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. Locate the preference browser.tabs.warnOnClose, if its value is set to false, double-click on it to change its value to true
  4. Repeat this for these 3 preferences browser.warnOnQuit, browser.warnOnRestart and browser.showQuitWarning

If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:

  1. Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
  2. Go to the General panel
  3. Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Alibongo, I never even knew about a save & quit function, so I found a way to always get my tabs back. I'm a sports writer and kept a lot open with Bar Tab & 3.6.

(always a couple/few hundred, but as many as 480)

I merely close FF using the task manager, I stop the process. When I open FF again a screen pops up giving me two options, restore session or start new session.

Ignore the message that FF is having trouble restoring your tabs, just click restore session. It still works with 5.o.

Thanks to TonyE and Magyver for your replies. Both useful although in the end I have gone back to firefox 3.6. Maybe the Firefox people could restore the save and quit option on Firefox 4???
