Firefox does not remember my history settings.

I used the "Custom setting for history" option in Privacy. I set it to never remember my history, but keep cookies. However, Firefox always reverts back to "Never remember history", even within the same browsing session. I am new to Firefox, so I may be doing something wrong. Help is appreciated.
