Still not clear on Thunderbird cache

My Thunderbird cache is using a gigabyte of disk space. I'd like to clear it, but it's not clear to me if I would be wiping out stored messages when I do that.

I like to download my emails to my computer (and keep copies on the server, too). I thought that was what I was doing, since I can view my emails when offline, but maybe I'm just accessing the cached copies?

Will I lose my old emails if I clear the cache?

The cache is not emails, it is just temporary work areas, such as downloaded graphics in emails so they can be viewed within a message. Messages are retained within the message folders. I clear cache daily, sometimes more often, on both Thunderbird and Windows.

Hello there We have read the question We try to help

Your cache is safe to delete it concerns your Thunderbird software. This cache contains several files that are in contact with other types of larger files. Small assignments that also have goeing inspections with other smaller assignments for data or a version on your PC computer machine, for example. In this case for your email program. You can safely erase the Thundetbird cache, if necessary, it will be supplemented again, so that it was filled with it.

Thanks, David, but this is part of what confuses me: "such as downloaded graphics in emails so they can be viewed within a message."

Does that mean that if I clear the cache, and then I'm working offline, those graphics will not be available to view in the messages?

How can I make sure that messages are fully downloaded and available on my hard drive, even when I'm offline?

When you view a graphic, it is a file in itself and Thunderbird copies it into memory so it can display it. The cache is only a temporary work space. If not sure, then do a full backup of your profile and then clear the cache and verify that nothing is lost. I have my thunderbird set to clear cache when a small size is reached, causing it to clear daily.
