Gmails automatically going to archives is still a problem for me

I find it hard to explain and tend now too often to just give up.

I was overwhelmed with the response to an earlier question which itself was archived.

Here it is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1380099

I want to get this sorted - but probably my lack of mental dexterity and neurodevelopmental disabilities make it impossible.

I looked at Outlook recently but that was not ideal either - I feel as if I am being guessed by technology too often - automatic spelling correction was bad enough - but this is something else and more AI is coming - I have just experimented with the NEW Bing search experience - it seems as if rather than being encouraged to think things through and formulate strategies that work for me - too much is being done for me.

Still at 74 - and in less than good health - I will not need to worry much more.

I would still like to see how to use Gmail with Thunderbird in a simplified form so that I can control what has gone where and understand the hows and whys.

Thanks to those who tried to help me before - I am sorry I did not respond positively to all the work that was done for me -as others did not get involved - I guess this must be a personal issue and not shared with many others.

1. Google enforces archiving to the "ALL mail" mail folder on Gmail. If you implement your account using IMAP then you are subject to the Google enforced archiving. End of discussion on that one. You choice is realy put up with it or don't use Googles mail offering. Try GMX, there service is very standards compliant. Googles is not.

You could try unsubscribing from the all mail folder to "hide" the archiving (right click the folder name), but that is all if does hide it.

2. If you implement your account using POP, you will not see the enforced archiving, because POP only looks to the inbox. But it is still there.

Thank you Matt

At last an explanation that makes sense to me.

I do not know about GMX- - can it be used with a Gmail address, please?

The attraction of Gmail is its ubiquity & simplicity - unfortunately my Internet Service Provider - a fully co-operative organisation (in the Rochdale tradition) uses "@phonecoop.coop" - which others find difficult to comprehend - especially when it is read out over the telephone etc. There are even some companies who invite email responses via webmail who have systems that cannot cope with 4 digit suffixes.

I understand that if I revert to "POP" settings in emails - that means when different email clients are used they each need to be deleted separately - so if I delete an email in Thunderbird - it will remain on my cell phone email client - is that right?

I welcome further comments

Please excuse my delayed acknowledgement - unfortunately - that is how I am which I think is connected with the disorganisation that is prompted by my neurodevelopmental disabilities (dyspraxia and dyslexia)
