OK..thanks again.. I will check it out

If I remove folder & find out it was a mistake, can I still recover them?

As you have pop accounts, even if you remove the account from Account Settings, those files will still be in the profile, so it is possible to access them and retrieve emails etc or even resurect the account..

OK..So what do u suggest I do step by step please. I don't even know how which folder (or accounts) to remove those unwanted folders. See screenshot (posted earlier in this chat...or I could post another one)

Worse case scenario, if I have to totally remove, uninstall Thunderbird & start afresh with a brand new install, will I still have the same problem or do u think I can understand (step by step with u walking me thru) how to fix the issues w/o having to do that?

Is there a support phone # for Thunderbird I can phone & talk to someone?

I love Thunderbird & I REALLY appreciate your willingness to help.

re :what do u suggest I do step by step please.

In that original image - under 'All Folders' you have 3 mail accounts. The first Two have same name and they only have Inbox showing - these are the accounts you need to remove. The third one has same email address but it has (POP3) at the end and that one you need to keep. As it is the third one in the list, it was probably the last one you created and it is probably not the default account.

So, first you are going to set up the 'email address (Pop3)' account as the default one to get it moved to top of list. In Folder Pane:

  • Right click on the account called 'email address (Pop3)' folder and select 'Settings'

This opens the 'Account Settings' in a new tab

That 'email address (Pop3)' account name should already be selected. But make sure it is selected. click on 'Account Actions' and select 'Set as Default' See image below as guide. It will move the 'email address (Pop3)' up to the top of the list. Leave that account alone.

Now select one of the other account name - it just says the account name/email address. click on 'Account Actions' and this time select 'Remove Account' Then do the same for the last account of same name.

Exit Thunderbird - wait a few moments for background processes to complete and then start Thunderbird. What do you see in the Folder Pane ? Post a new image showing the Folder Pane.

Also, why do I have 2 mail folders? (IMAP & POP3) And why do I have 3 new inbox msgs in the POP3 mail folder & 7 new inbox msgs in the IMAP mail folder? And which main mail folder (IMAP & POP3) do I remove & HOW to remove it?

Thanks again

re :When I open up Thunderbird, I now this this msg. I have no idea how to create a new pw.

You do not create a new password. You cannot create new passwords in Thunderbird. It does not ask you to create a new password - it says the password you have tried to use does not match the imap account which has ricc as username. So, if you have created a new password then Enter it.

It means the password auto saved in Thunderbird is not matching the account with username ricc. However, the password may be correct and it is the User Name which is wrong. Most accounts require the username to be the full email address and not just the bit before the @. So the first thing to try - imap account needs the 'User Name' changing to be the full email address.

re :why do I have 2 mail folders? (IMAP & POP3) Because you created two mail accounts for the same email address and set one up as imap and the other as pop. It is likely the imap was the default settings initially used by Thunderbird when you create account the account.

re: And why do I have 3 new inbox msgs in the POP3 mail folder & 7 new inbox msgs in the IMAP mail folder?

Imap accounts are designed to show whatever is held on the server. Emails are stored on the server. The folders in an imap account synchronise with folders on the server. They are not independent and can be viewed as one and the same. So if you delete off server via webmail then it will get auto deleted from imap and vis versa. There are 7 messages in the server Inbox, hence 7 in imap account Inbox.

Pop accounts are completely independent of the server. They look at server and download whatever has not been previously downloaded. You can delete an email from a pop account and it may not necesarilly be deleted off the server. it depends upon your settings and whether you compact on a regular basis. It is also possible you put emails received in Inbox into another folder or Thunderbird moved it automatically to Junk.

But if you compacted the POP Inbox folder and emails disappear from server then may also disappear from Imap Inbox.

re :And which main mail folder (IMAP & POP3) do I remove

Imap means you can access the server using more than one device and see the same thing. it also means all emails are stored on the server. You would need to subscribe to see all the server folders. It does seem very odd that you can only see the imap Inbox folder normally you would see all the default server folders. You can choose to download full copies or just headers and that can be done on a per folder basis. Periodically, you would need to synchronise and download emails in all folders in order to create your own backup of profile folders as the only copy is really held on the server.

The imap account seems to not be auto displaying all the server folders and it has an issue with the username, so the imap account would need further fixing. It may be that you do not want nor need an imap account. The Pop account is less complicated. Emails get downloaded to Inbox. Folders and emails get stored on your computer and only get deleted off server as per the settings.

So the IMAP account is the one to delete.

re: & HOW to remove it?

I supplied that information previously. In Folder Pane - right click on the top account name folder (IMAP) and select 'Settings' The 'Account Settings' opens in new tab and it should have already selected the email address (IMAP) account name. So make sure the account email address(IMAP) is selected. Click on 'Account Actions' and select 'Remove account' Then Exit/Close Thunderbird - wait a few moments and restart.
