This problem is almost the opposite of that of thread 1305966!

Thunderbird 78.11.0 on Linux, using the Google CalDAV interface.

I have no problem with getting calendar events to Google from Linux. The events can be seen in Google Calendar on my Android (v10) phone. I have no problem with getting calendar events to Google from my Android phone. They can be seen if I login from my computer to my Google account.

The problem is that the events entered from my phone, or directly logged in to the Google account, do not appear in the Thunderbird calendar on my computer. It seems that events do not get from Google Calendar to Thunderbird, not even if I sync! However, if I close Thunderbird and restart it, synchronisation occurs and events entered from my phone appear in the Thunderbird calendar.

It all worked properly, until a Thunderbird update (to 78?) some months ago. Yes, I have spent time on and off trying to find a solution! I would rather not have to close and restart Thunderbird regularly ...

Is there a fix?

There are several reports of sync failures, such as:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1659076

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1694709

As a test, I have a Google calendar in TB set up with TbSync/Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV. An event added in Lightning appears in the Google calendar accessed with the browser, and vice versa, without restarting TB. I synced manually for the test.

Thank you sfhowes. Selecting my Google calendar, going to Events and Tasks, Calendar properties ..., and unchecking Offline Support has done it! Rather interesting to see that Lightning then required access to my Google account - since Lightning has been updating my Google calendar all along!
