Where is the 'gear' icon?

more options

Got this notice when I updated firefox, and I don't want to get suggestions. I can't find the 'gear' icon. Thanks!

"Now when you open New Tab, you'll also see sites we think might be interesting to you. Some may be suggested by Mozilla or sponsored by one of our partners.

When you open a new tab (e.g., click the + button the tab bar), you should see a large gear / wheel / cog icon on the right side, which turns blue when you hover it:

(from Customize your New Tab page to hide or display content)

If you do not have that, maybe your new tab page has been customized. What is the page you see? If its address is not displayed in the address bar, you can grab it from the Page Info dialog. Either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information

On the General tab, you can triple-click the address and copy it (Command+c or right-click>Copy) and then paste that into a reply. For reference, the built-in page is about:newtab so anything else would be a customization.
