Why do my Firefox privacy settings keep changing, and how can I prevent this from happening?

I set Firefox to clear cookies and all history except saved passwords when I close Firefox. Over and over again, I've found that that the settings have been changed so that history and cookies are not cleared when I shut down Firefox. I've started watching a little more closely, and, yesterday, Firefox changed my settings 4 times. Each time I found that the privacy settings had been changed I returned the settings to the state that I prefer. I'm the only user of my computer; no other person could possibly change the settings. Does Firefox change the settings, or is this being done by my software or by malware? I'm using Windows 7 and Norton 360.
