ui.key.chromeAccess & Ui.key.contentAccess being ignored
Hi, I recently switched back to Firefox from Chrome. However I noticed that alt+keys are still being used by the browser over web pages.
I tried the old fix of changing ui.key.chromeAccess and Ui.key.contentAccess. But this time, the settings are completely ignored. Even when they are set to "0", the alt+keys still open the browser's menu functions.
This is possibly a bug, but I thought I would ask here first.

It works for me. The attached screenshot shows all my ui.key.* settings.
To check whether it is due to one of my extensions, I tested in a new profile as well. Do you want to try Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)
Does the change take effect in Safe Mode?

If you switch the values of the two preferences, e.g.,
- ui.key.contentAccess = 4 (Alt)
- ui.key.chromeAccess = 5 (Alt+Shift)
The accesskey links/controls in the page should work with just Alt instead of requiring Alt+Shift. However, If the accesskey is not defined, then Alt will operate the menu even without the Shift key.
Note: I tested with all other ui.key.* preferences at default values.
Is that what you wanted, or do you want Alt to be ignored when it isn't assigned to a particular accesskey in the page?
Hi, I just want to be able to use "alt+s" in certain web based forms that make use of it. Because the way Firefox works, which is unlike all other browsers, is to open the History menu item.
The old fix was to change those two settings, but for some reason, they are not having an effect for me. Is there an accesskey setting I should be changing as well?
You would normally need to use the Shift and Alt key for using access keys: Alt+Shift+S
A lot of Ctrl and Alt key combination are used internally and by extensions.
Hi, the point is that I don't want to use Shift+Alt. I want to use Alt only, just like every other browser except this one.
Changing those settings used to fix it, but no longer do. That's what I'm trying to find out, if someone here knows.
