How can I alter the date format to Uk style
When I get reminders from my calendar it shows the date in the action column in the US style which is confusing EG something for today shows as 5/11/2013 and not as 11/5/2013.

If you don't find a reminder-related extension, then the next stop would be the options for your calendar site. If it's a popular one (e.g., Google calendar), you probably will find tips on how to change the date format in a web search. If it's a more obscure one, you might try their support if the option is not obvious.

Are the reminders generated by a website or by an add-on? If the website/add-on doesn't have a built-in feature to localize dates, there might be a way to "hack" in the change.
I'm not sure where the reminders are generated. I'll have to live with it I think. Thanks for your help.
If you feel like exploring a bit further, check to see whether one of your extensions could be the source of the reminders. On the following tab, if you find a likely culprit, there usually will be an Options button which might help in fine-tuning its behavior:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
