Thank you for your help. My Firefox browser is having trouble loading many web pages as I surf the Internet. After clicking on a link or typing a url addresses and hitting Enter, my web browser window goes white and the icon in the tab keeps spinning indefinitely. However, once I click on the reload button, the website loads immediately.

I've tried removing all of my cookies and cleaning out my history. I've also tried resetting my preferences and disabling all of my add-ons, yet the problem persists.

Is anyone able to help me with this? I don't have any problems accessing sites using IE.

I am using a 64-bit version of Firefox on a 64-bit system, in case this could make a difference.

After much searching, resolve the problem by deleting my hostperm.1 file. One of the entries listed in this file was for msnbc.com. I'm not sure how the huge list of entries in the hostperm.1 file were created. Might have been Spybot immunization? Tried unclicking the Firefox entries in Spybot and re-running immunization. It said that Firefox was no longer immunized, but I was still having problems until I deleted the hostperm.1 file, so maybe it was some other anti-spyware program or an add-on that created this list?

Anyway, I'm glad this has been resolved. Its been an incredibly annoying problem for a while now.

Unfortunately, this didn't work either. I guess this file is no longer used by Firefox.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Reversing (resetting) all of the settings recommended on this web page appears to have resolved the issue.
