My computer will not update to current version of firefox
please advise how to update. My email server said that the current version I have will not support it. I have tried updating. Thanks.

You need to install newer macOS.
If you can update from OS X 10.9 to at least 10.12 you'd be able to use ESR version 115 that's kept alive for such old devices.
To get current releases in the 150+ range you need at least macOS 10.15 at this point.
Your OS version limits and upgrade paths are pretty much defined by what device you're using.
Yes as Firefox 116.0 to current Firefox versions requires macOS 10.15 (ten.fifteen) or later to run.
