When switching tabs in iOS version (latest Firefox and iOS) the new tab opens and focuses an older tab requiring manual switch to the new tab

When opening a new tab either by a link to another site or entering a url iOS Firefox reverts to another open tab while also opening the new site. This requires manual switching to the new url. Perhaps there is a switch I can change to have it go to the target url. Thanks for any guidance.
