Firefox 61.0.1 How many 'recently closed windows' can I store on the list? I have 19 on the list and 1 open, what is the maximum?

In "about:config" I set the value for "browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo" to 20. Can I go higher? I use massive amounts of windows at times and sometimes require saving all of them short term.

Thanks!

Hi, not sure re : question but a other option is to Right Click the Tab and use Bookmark all Tabs.

Do the following to save all open tabs:

  • Right-click on any tab that is open in the browser and select "bookmark all tabs" from the context menu. If you prefer the keyboard, use Ctrl-Shift-d instead.
  • Firefox displays a prompt that you use to set a name and location for the new bookmarks folder.

Firefox saves all open tabs to a folder in the bookmarks. You may middle-click on the folder to open all sites saved in it at once.

On a FF crash some time ago, I found I didn't have all by browser windows restored. I asked here about it and the answer was to raise the value to the config you referenced. I think the default value is way too low to begin with.

I have my browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo set to 16. I don't know what the limit is. Can you set the value higher to 25 or 30 or 40 and does it stick?

I don't know if there is a maximum. When I took a quick peek in the source code, I didn't see one.

One possible issue is that the session history files get bigger and bigger the more closed windows and tabs you save in them. Since the file may be rewritten to disk as often as every 15 seconds when there are frequent updates to tabs, it can start to become a (minor) drag on performance. Also, some SSD users freaked out about disk wear prefer to minimize disk writes.
