11/14/2017 5:30pm: I just down loaded the Quantum version of Firefox. I had been experiencing serious pausing with the previous version and was hoping this would help. Not only did it not help the problem is exponentially worse. The pauses from 10-30 seconds with active time only 1-3 seconds. No, the numbers are not switched. With 3 tabs up, each tab in it's own process is using 20% to 40% of CPU time. If I switch to a different window the CPU Utilization goes down but comes right back to 20-30% for each tab when I focus on Firefox. The pausing is so serious I had to use my copy of Edge to write this message therefore there is no troubleshooting information. This version doesn't seem like it's fully baked. I'll be using Edge I guess until either 1.) you show me where I went horribly wrong or 2.) the problem is fixed in an update or 3.) my computer blows up or gets left out in the rain or some other tragic ending.

Hi, you should try Refreshing Firefox!

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
