Deleteing addresses in my address book causes the display to reset to view the first page

After using Thunderbird for a few years, I have a large number of addresses in my addresses book. I occasionally go through it to delete unused address. Each time I delete one or more (say I'm at the T's), the display then shows the list starting with the A's and I must scroll down to get back to where I did the deletion. How do I keep the display showing the T's?

This could be due to a glitch with your Thunderbird installation. That could have been caused by a file system error.

I would first run a Check Disk to fix file system errors: How to run a "Check Disk" in Windows

Then I would uninstall Thunderbird, run a Disk Cleanup, reboot Windows, then Download & install Thunderbird again.

When Thunderbird is uninstalled, the Thunderbird Profile folder that has all your Thunderbird settings, e-mails, address books, etc. is left behind. Then when you install Thunderbird again, it will see this Profile folder and automatically use it.

Despite this, I recommend backing up your Thunderbird Profile folder to another location, just to be safe. See: Profile backup, and follow the instructions for "Manually back up the profile".

Disk Cleanup: Hold down the Windows key and press the "R" key. In the "Run" box, type:

 cleanmgr.exe
