I'm on a newish Mac Air running Yosemite. TBird has been pretty decent filtering out spam over the years for me.

In the last four days, really obvious spam is getting through - about a dozen a day. By obvious, I mean "lose fat", "cellulite", "stay hard", "earn at home" ... all stuff I haven't seen for ages.

The filters haven't stopped working all together. Emails are still automatically showing up in the spam folder. Just not as many, and not ones that earlier would never have ended up in the inbox.

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks!

There isn't much more to recommend than the obvious - marking those messages 'as junk'. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls

See if that improves the situation. Report back if not.

Thanks. Yes, I'm doing that in hopes to retrain the system. I was hoping to understand what caused the problem.

Thunderbird does not use Spam or a Spam folder. Like Christ1 says it uses Junk. Are you sure you are not looking for any Spam filtering that your email provider might be doing?

I meant the Junk folder. Thanks for catching that.

One of my accounts is currently being bombarded with Junk. A lot, but not all of it goes straight into Junk. I guess they are being clever enough to use innocuous wording that doesn't stand out as particularly "spammy".

I haven't looked that closely. Through my personal filter it all looks like "DAMMIT! *click* "DAMMIT! *click* "DAMMIT! *click*" ;)

I appreciate the feedback here. I'll call it "solved". If there were a solid technical explanation it might go well over my head anyway.

Thank you!
