Entering search text into Wikipedia produces erratic results and post-editing the entry is equally erratic in behaviour (does not happen with Chrome), why?
phone: Motorola Moto E os: Android 4.4.4, Kernel version: 3.4.42-g6bc7ff3 firefox: version 37.0.2, firefox-sync enabled firefox add-ons: lastpass 3.1.1 enabled, adblock plus 2.6.9 enabled, openh264 video codec by cisco v1.3 enabled, problem website: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page#/search also with https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Hauptseite
When entering search text the first entered character does not appear. Upon typing the second character the first character immediately appears but is doubled followed by the second character which is correctly displayed. So, for example typing 'lon' produces "llon".
Trying to correct the doubled first-character entry results in some erratic line-editing behaviour. For example 1) in the first session on using this web-page the first use of backspace (cursor at end of line) produces a repeat of the first two entered characters. eg. the above "llon" thus becomes llonlo". Sometimes subsequent usage of backspace results in correct behaviour giving normal line entry and editing. 2) After producing the example "llon" above, tapping the touch screen at the end of line to bring the orange cursor marker repeat the above behaviour in that a second 'lo' as repeated on the end. However, further backspacing ONLY removes that added 'lo' pair and does not proceed further back to erase further characters. Thus the original "llon" is retained. In this case only the clear-line button (white 'X' in a grey circle) will clear the line after which text entry and editing behaves correctly.
3) again in first-session of this web-page, if one tries to enter not just 'lon' as above which results in "llon" appearing but then continues to type a 'd' then this results in "llonlond". Using backspaces one can ONLY remove the 'lond' element thus leaving "llon". Again, after using the clear-line button as in 2) allows normal line entry and editing.
4) A 'trick' would be to type the first character which brings the clear-line button to then use and follow with normal editing facilities as one would wish for.
However, despite any of the above, selecting any of Wikipedia's list of suggestions takes one out of Wikipedia and back to Firefox's list of past opened web pages.
The above behaviour seems ONLY to happen on first usage of the page
I am a user who avoids using 'everything Google' (in fact from using 'everything Everything') wherever possible but I have had to re-enable Chrome and set my Home-Screen Wikipedia links to open in Chrome which behaves 'perfectly'. Meanwhile I use Firefox for all other browsing due to the many browser links I have accumulated.
I hope the above is useful to someone somewhere.
