Thunderbird won't let me set up my email on my new, Windows 8.1 computer.
Worked on old Vista computer. Will set up account with no password (doesn't work with isp, of course). Same problem with my two different isp's.

Solved! (It's my own question.) The problem is frontier.com. They are my isp. They block most or all communications with servers, except their own. They block the attempt from Thunderbird to set up an account. Setting up an account with anyone else but frontier is blocked.

I don't understand what this means. What exactly are you doing and what happens?
